Hondata FlashPro - 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R FK8
Want to tune your FK8 Type R? The Hondata FlashPro lets you flash custom tunes to your factory ECU through the OBD-II port. You plug it into your laptop, load a tune, flash it to your ECU, and you're done. You can adjust fuel maps, ignition timing, boost control, throttle response, and pretty much everything else the ECU controls. If you've got bolt-ons like an intake, downpipe, or intercooler, you need FlashPro to tune for those parts. If you're stock, FlashPro still wakes the car up with better throttle response and smoother power delivery.
Your ECU Needs to Be Jailbroken First
Here's the thing: you can't just plug FlashPro in and start tuning. Honda locked the FK8's ECU, so you need to jailbreak it before FlashPro can communicate with it. How you jailbreak your ECU depends on what year your Type R is. If you've got a 2017-2019 Type R, you send your ECU to Hondata and they jailbreak it for you. It's called Instant Jailbreak Service and it's a one-time fee. If you've got a 2020-2021 Type R, you need to buy Hondata's Jailbreaker Module, which bypasses the CAN gateway temporarily so you can jailbreak the ECU yourself. The Jailbreaker's reusable, so once you've got it, you can use it on other 2020-2021 FK8s if you need to.
Live Tuning and Datalogging
FlashPro lets you tune your car in real time while it's running. That's huge if you're working with a tuner or if you're tuning it yourself on the dyno. You can see what the engine's doing through custom laptop gauges, adjust parameters on the fly, and datalog everything. The FlashPro stores 20 hours of datalogging onboard, so you can log your pulls and review them later. If you're chasing a knock event or trying to dial in your AFR, the datalogs show you exactly what's happening.
Two Map Storage
FlashPro stores two calibrations at once. You can have a pump gas tune and an E85 tune loaded, or a street tune and a race tune, and switch between them without needing your laptop. That's useful if you're running different fuel or if you want a conservative tune for daily driving and an aggressive tune for track days.
Race Version vs CARB Legal Version
Hondata makes FlashPro in two versions: Race and CARB Legal. The Race version gives you full tuning access with no restrictions. It's for track use and off-road use only. The CARB Legal version is street legal in all 50 states and it's got a CARB EO number (D-742-2), but it's got some tuning restrictions compared to the Race version. If you're in California or you need to pass emissions, get the CARB Legal version. If you're tracking the car or you don't care about emissions compliance, get the Race version.
